Prompt guide

In Focus, the list of instructions you sent to a terminal, with a filter and a jump to the point in the conversation where each one was sent.

Updated for PrumoGrid 0.5.11

What it's for

A conversation with an agent grows fast. After a few exchanges, finding the question you asked half an hour ago means scrolling through answers, diffs and test output. The Prompt guide solves that: it is the list of instructions sent to that terminal, newest first, with time and number. One click takes the conversation to the point where the instruction was sent and highlights the line for a moment.

The guide sits at the top of the terminal in the spotlight in Focus, next to the Search this conversation field, labeled Prompt guide · N, where N is how many instructions that terminal has received.

When to use it and when not to

Use the guide when you want to get back to one of your instructions inside a long conversation: check what you asked before changing course, reread the answer to an old question, find the point where the agent started a change.

It is not for:

  • Searching several terminals at once. That is what search (Ctrl+Shift+F) is for, on the Search and shortcuts page.
  • Finding any text from the agent's answer. The guide lists only your instructions; for the rest of the conversation, use Search this conversation (Ctrl+F in Focus).
  • Copying or reusing an instruction from another day. The saved history of every terminal, with Copy, is Sent instructions (Ctrl+Shift+I), in History and writing.

Step by step

Open the guide and jump to an instruction

The example goes back to the free-shipping question asked to Claude Code in loja-api.

  1. Click Focus in the bar above the terminals.
  2. Bring the Claude Code terminal to the center by clicking its thumbnail in the bottom strip.
  3. At the top of the terminal, to the right of the Search this conversation field, click Prompt guide · 4. The list opens over the conversation, with the cursor already in the Filter prompts field.
  4. Read the lines. Each one shows you · 18:15 · message 2 and the start of the instruction. Hover over a line to read the whole text.
  5. Click What is the minimum order for free shipping?. The guide closes, the conversation scrolls to that instruction and the line is highlighted for about a second and a half.
  6. Read the answer right below it and, when you are done, carry on the conversation as usual at the end of the terminal.

You can also reach the guide from Tools → What changed in 0.5.11…: on the Prompt guide line, the Show button switches to Focus and opens the guide of the focused terminal.

Filter by a word

  1. With the guide open, type coupon in Filter prompts. The list keeps only the instructions that contain the word, ignoring case.
  2. Press Enter to jump to the first one in the list, which is the most recent. Or use ↓ and ↑ to pick another line and Enter to jump to it.
  3. Press Esc to close the guide without jumping. Focus goes back to the Prompt guide button.

Clicking outside the list also closes the guide. The filter and the scroll position are still there the next time you open it.

What you see on screen

The Prompt guide open in Focus: the terminal's instructions, newest first, with time and number.
Filter prompts: only the instructions containing the word remain. Enter jumps to the first one.

Guide, search and Sent instructions

These are three ways to find something that already happened. The difference is the reach:

FeatureWhere it looksHow to open it
Prompt guideYour instructions to one terminal, with a jump to each one.In Focus, Prompt guide · N at the top of the terminal.
Search this conversationAll the text in one terminal: instructions, answers and output. In Focus, the field at the top of the terminal or Ctrl+F.
Content searchThe text of every open terminal, the stages and the rules.Ctrl+Shift+F or the find a terminal, a stage or a rule… field at the top of the window.
Sent instructionsThe saved history of instructions from every terminal, filterable by project and terminal, with Go to position and Copy.Ctrl+Shift+I, the Stages tab or Tools → Sent instructions….

Tips

  • Name your terminals before a long session (double-click the pane name). With two identical agents, it is easy to tell which guide you need. See Organize projects and terminals.
  • Short instructions with a clear keyword are easier to find later with the filter: "Fix the PRIMEIRA coupon" is found with coupon.
  • The guide survives closing and reopening the window while the session is still alive in the service: when you reopen, the instructions come back with the terminal.
  • To see what an agent received from a Flow stage, look for the flow: lines in its terminal's guide.

Known limitations

  • The guide only appears in Focus. In the Grid, terminals do not show the search bar or the guide.
  • Each terminal has its own guide. It does not combine instructions from different terminals or different projects.
  • The window keeps up to 2,000 instructions per terminal. Beyond that, the oldest ones drop out of the guide; the Sent instructions history still has them, up to its own limit.
  • If the instruction has already left the terminal's scrollback, the jump does not happen and the notice Instruction not found in the visible history. It remains saved in the prompt guide. appears.
  • In CLIs that redraw the whole screen, such as Claude Code, PrumoGrid scrolls the CLI's own history until it finds the instruction. Any key, click or turn of the mouse wheel cancels that search.
  • Numeric answers to a permission request and the command that starts the CLI (claude, codex) typed in a shell do not go into the guide.
