Install and update

Requirements, step-by-step installation, what to check the first time you open it, how to update without losing sessions, and how to uninstall.

Updated for PrumoGrid 0.5.11

Before installing

ItemRequired?What for
Windows 10 1809 or newer, or Windows 11, 64-bitYesThe terminals run on Windows ConPTY.
Node.jsNoThe installer brings what the app needs.
Claude Code, Codex or another agent CLIOnly to use agentsPrumoGrid calls the CLI that is already installed and authenticated on your computer. It does not install it or log in for you.
Git 2.17 or newerFor worktrees and change reviewWithout Git, terminals, stages and rules work; only those screens are left out.
WSL and Git BashOptionalThey appear as terminal options when they are installed. In WSL, the agent CLI must be installed and authenticated on the Linux side.

To check what you already have, open a PowerShell and run these queries. None of them changes anything:

powershell
Get-Command claude, codex -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
git --version
wsl.exe --list --verbose

Install

  1. Download PrumoGrid-Setup-0.5.11.exe from the site's download page (about 90 MiB).
  2. If you want to check the file, run Get-FileHash .\PrumoGrid-Setup-0.5.11.exe -Algorithm SHA256 in the download folder and compare it with the SHA-256 published on the page.
  3. Run the installer. It is not digitally signed yet, so Windows may warn that the publisher is unknown.
  4. Read the License Agreement (PrumoGrid Free Use License 1.0) and accept it with I Agree.
  5. Choose Only for me (the default, no administrator prompt) or Anyone who uses this computer.
  6. Check the folder. The default is %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\PrumoGrid, about 313 MB.
  7. Finish with Run PrumoGrid checked.

The installer creates the PrumoGrid shortcut in the Start menu. Your data (projects, layout, routines, global rules) lives in %APPDATA%\TerminalGrid, separate from the program folder.

First launch

  1. Open PrumoGrid from the Start menu.
  2. Look at the status bar, on the left: daemon connected means the terminal service is running. It is what keeps sessions alive when the window closes.
  3. The left column says Add a folder to get started. and offers + add projects….
  4. Go on to the first project in 10 minutes.

In a terminal opened by PrumoGrid, tg --help shows the help for the local integration. This command only exists in PrumoGrid terminals.

Update

PrumoGrid tells you when there is a new version. Updates are signed: the app checks the manifest signature and the installer's integrity before installing.

  1. Open Tools → Advanced options…, section Updates. Check now checks right away; with Check on startup and every 6 hours turned on, the app checks on its own. When there is a new version, the screen shows the notes under What changed.
  2. Choose Download update. If the license changed, the text appears for you to read and accept before the download.
  3. After the file is checked, choose Install update.
  4. Choose Reopen now or On close. With On close, the installation happens when you close the window.

The dialog says whether the new version replaces the terminal service:

  • This update does not replace the service: terminals and sessions carry on after reopening.
  • This update replaces the service: when the service restarts, open sessions will end. Pick the moment based on the work in progress.

You can also run the new installer over the current installation, without uninstalling. Close the PrumoGrid window first; the terminals stay in the service and come back when the app reopens. If you are coming from 0.5.4, install 0.5.11 from the site and accept the Free Use License on the installer screen.

The "The running service is from another version." line

Installing a new version does not bring down the service that is holding your sessions. When the code of the running service differs from the installed one, a discreet line appears at the top of the window: The running service is from another version.

The line only appears when the service code changed. Nothing forces you to restart right away.
  • Restart now asks for confirmation, says how many sessions will end, restarts the service and reopens the app.
  • Later hides the line until the next launch.

When going from 0.5.10 to 0.5.11, the line appears once, because the 0.5.10 service does not report which code it runs. From then on, only when the service actually changes. Reopening just the window does not update the service.

Uninstall

In Settings → Installed apps, choose PrumoGrid 0.5.11 → Uninstall (or run Uninstall PrumoGrid.exe in the program folder). The uninstaller closes the app and the service and removes the program folder and the shortcut.

The %APPDATA%\TerminalGrid folder stays, with your projects, layout and routines, and reinstalling brings everything back. To delete the data as well, remove that folder by hand. Files written to your repositories, such as the PrumoGrid block in CLAUDE.md or .terminal-grid\regras.json, also stay: they are your project's files.

Tips

  • The service log, terminal-grid-daemon.log, is in the Windows temporary folder (%TEMP%). Each file goes up to 50 MB and PrumoGrid keeps at most three (.log, .log.1 and .log.2); the oldest one is discarded.
  • If you need a separate environment (to practice without mixing it with your day-to-day work), you can set the TG_PROFILE variable before opening the app: with TG_PROFILE=ensaio, the data goes to %APPDATA%\TerminalGrid-ensaio, with its own projects and service.
  • The product's previous name was Terminal Grid. That is why the data folder, the tg command, the TG_* variables and the .terminal-grid folder keep that name.

Known limitations

  • The installer has no Authenticode signature. The update check uses the PrumoGrid manifest signature, which is a different thing.
  • PrumoGrid is Windows-only in this version.
  • The Chromium sandbox is turned off. See Language and sandbox.
  • The source code is not distributed with this version.
