Organize projects and terminals
Put the projects in the sidebar in any order you like, rename terminals and arrange the order of the panes, without touching the sessions.
Updated for PrumoGrid 0.5.11
What it's for
With several projects and several agents open, order and names matter. The project you work on most sits at the top of the Projects column. The terminal that reviews is called Reviewer, not "Claude Code" for the second time. The main agent is always pane 1, reached with Ctrl+1.
None of this touches the work itself. Changing the order of the projects does not change the selection or reopen terminals. Renaming a pane does not restart the session or change the CLI running in it. The arrangement is saved and comes back the same when you open PrumoGrid again.
When to use it and when not to
Arrange the order of the projects when the list grows past two or three cards and you keep looking for the same ones. Rename terminals when there are two agents of the same kind, or when each one's role matters more than the CLI: Implementer and Reviewer.
Do not use the terminal name to hold information that changes, such as the number of a ticket in progress: the name shows up in search, in Attention and on the thumbnails, and a stale name is confusing. You also don't need to rename panes to tell projects apart; each pane already shows its project and branch.
Step by step
Change the order of the projects in the sidebar
With the mouse:
- In the Projects column, point at the card you want to move, for example
pagamentos. The tooltip says Show only pagamentos. Drag to reorder. - Drag the card by its top part (name and path) up or down. A line in the project's color shows where it will land, before or after the card under the mouse.
- Release. The card stays in its new position and the order is saved.
From the card menu, without dragging:
- Click
···in the corner of theportal-webcard. - At the end of the menu, choose Move up or Move down. Each click moves it one position.
- Repeat until the project is where you want it. The first card does not show Move up, and the last one does not show Move down.
The ··· menu also works from the keyboard: reach the button with Tab and open it with Enter.
Rename a terminal
- Double-click the pane name in the terminal header. From the keyboard, move focus to the name with Tab and press Enter or Space.
- In the Rename terminal dialog, the Name field comes with the current name selected. Type
Reviewer. - Click Save or press Enter. Cancel or Esc close it without changing anything, and focus goes back to the pane name.
The new name shows up in the header, on the Focus thumbnail, in search results and in Attention notices. It is saved with the pane.
Change the order of the terminals
- Drag the pane by the
⋮⋮handle at the start of its header and drop it on another pane. - From the keyboard, with the pane focused, use Ctrl+Shift+← and Ctrl+Shift+→. Each press moves it one position.
- Use Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+9 to go straight to the project's terminal N. The numbers follow the order you arranged.
What you see on screen
| On screen | What it means |
|---|---|
| Tooltip on the project card | Show only pagamentos. Drag to reorder.: clicking selects, dragging changes the position. |
| Move up, Move down | In the card's ··· menu, they move the project one position. |
| Colored card border | The project's color. It stays with the project when you change the order. |
⋮⋮ in the pane header | The handle for dragging the terminal to change the order. |
| Tooltip on the pane name | Double-click to rename. If the name came from the agent measured in the terminal, the tooltip says so. |
| Rename terminal | The dialog with the Name field, Cancel and Save. |
Other ways to organize
Besides order and names, PrumoGrid has these arrangement settings:
- Top selector: pick a project to see only its terminals, or All projects to see everything. The selector's list follows the same order as the Projects column.
- SPLIT: Auto or 1× to 4× columns in the Grid. See Grid and Focus.
- Wide pane (Ctrl+Shift+Enter), zoom (Ctrl+Shift+M) and collapse, from the buttons in each pane header.
- Saved layouts: keep the set of panes, with shell and folder, to reopen another day. See Grid and Focus.
- Collapse the sidebars with the
‹and›buttons, to give the terminals more width. - Close a project with the × on the card, which removes the folder from the list without deleting files. See Projects.
Terminal name and sensitive pane
The pane name is not just a label. PrumoGrid marks as sensitive any pane whose name or folder contains one of these fragments, ignoring case: prod, produc, prd and hml. A terminal renamed to API prod becomes sensitive right away:
- the pane gets the red mark;
- if it was in the broadcast, it leaves the group, and joining again asks for the Sensitive pane confirmation;
- PrumoGrid does not type in it on its own: the pane's startup command is not sent (the notice tells you to check the line and send it yourself), and a stage instruction asks for confirmation or waits in the session's inbox.
Use this to your advantage: give production or staging terminals a name with prod or hml. The list of patterns lives in layout.json in the profile's data folder, in the protectPatterns field; version 0.5.11 has no screen to edit it.
Tips
- Put the project you open first in the morning at the top of the column. When you open PrumoGrid, the order is the same.
- Name terminals by role (
Implementer,Reviewer,Tests) rather than by CLI. The CLI already shows in the icon and in the usage figures. - A pane opened with the shell's default name takes the agent's name when PrumoGrid measures the CLI running in it, for example
Claude Code. A name you chose is never replaced that way. - After renaming, the Prompt guide and search show the new name, which helps you find the right conversation.
Known limitations
- The project name is the folder name. There is no way to rename a project inside PrumoGrid.
- The project color is not chosen: it comes from the position where the project entered the list and stays with it when you change the order.
- There is no keyboard shortcut to move a project. From the keyboard, use the card's
···menu. - The terminal name accepts up to 256 characters and cannot be empty.
- Renaming does not change anything inside the CLI: the conversation, the session and the processes stay the same.
- The terminal order applies within the selected project. In All projects, the numbers Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+9 follow the order of all visible panes.
